The Novice Tour of Manawatu is a tour for licensed under 13,15,17 & 19 riders and is recognized as a premier Two Day Cycle Tour.

It is a 4 stage tour held within the Manawatu region.

The Tour underwent a dramatic and exciting change last year to celebrate it's 40th running of the event.  Changes included adding an additional stage and extending it to 2 days as well as opening the event for other age categories to participate.

Registration: Friday 5th December from 4pm to 5.30pm at Hotel Coachman , Fitzherbert Ave, Palmerston North or  Saturday morning from 7.30am at Ashhurst Village Valley Centre. Please note to access Linton Army Camp you will need to have a current WOF on your vehicle along with current registration. The name of the driver and the registration plate will need to be supplied prior to entry and to speed up the gate entry process these details are to supplied on entry forms. Also due to increased security measures all people in the vehicle must have photo ID on them so kids please bring school ID just in case it is required. 

Programme:

Race briefing: 8.10am, Ashhurst Village Valley Centre.

RaceStart:  (time according to age grade)

Stage 1   Saturday 8.30am onwards Valley Centre Carpark Ashhurst

Stage 2   Saturday 1pm onwards to be confirmed

Stage 3   Sunday  8am onwards Valley Centre Carpark Ashhurst

Stage 4   Sunday  1pm onwards  Village Valley Centre.

Rules

The race will be conducted under CNZ rules, in addition to the following:

  1. All appeals must be submitted to the Chief Judge in writing within 30 minutes of stage finish, with a fee of $50.
  2. Riders must carry their feeding requirements; there is no feeding zone.
  3. To be eligible for prize money, all stages must be completed.
  4. All service must be carried out on the left hand side of the road.
  5. Riders who deliberately break the road rules, to advantage themselves will be warned/penalised/disqualified from the race at the discretion of the Commissaires.
  6. Restarts will be given to riders who puncture or have a major mechanical breakdown within the first 200m of the time trial. Time penalties will be given for false starts. Riders who puncture or have a mechanical after the first 200m  will be credited with their own time or time of slowest rider who doesn’t have any mechanicals, whichever is fastest.
  7. No drafting by service vehicles will be permitted. Any rider being assisted up hills/back to the bunch will be disqualified. Any riders vehicles following in the race convoy will incur a time penalty against the rider.
  8. There will be no appeals regarding misdirection. Riders should know the course.
  9. No riders are to warm up on the Time Trial course. No time trial specific bikes are allowed.
  10. In the event of a tie, the placing in the final stage will decide the overall placing (All classifications).
  11. Riders must finish within 20% of the winning time to begin the next stage.
  12. Riders may be asked for a gear check at any time. Maximum roll-out for under 15 riders is 6.00 metres and under 17 is 7 meters and under 19 is 7.93 metres.
  13. Riders must be present at the prize giving after the race to collect their prizes.
  14. The Commissaires shall decide upon matters not accounted for in these rules.

  • Riders must have a Bike NZ race licence. Licence must be shown at registration.

 General Classification (GC)
The competitor  with the lowest aggregate riding time, less any bonuses, plus any penalties, shall be the leader of  the tour.
Time bonuses:
Finishes of stage one, and four
1st = 5 sec., 2nd= 3 sec., 3rd = 2 sec and 4th = 1 sec.

Sprint Ace 

The competitor with the greatest number of points from the sprint primes shall be the Sprint Ace. Sprints for all grades
Points for the sprint Ace classification:
1st = 6 pnts., 2nd = 4 pnts., 3rd = 2 pnts and 4th = 1 pnt.

King/Queen of the Mountain  

The competitor with the greatest number of points from the KoM/QoM primes shall be the King / Queen of  the  Mountain. All grades.
Points for the KoM / QoM classification:
1st = 6 pnts., 2nd = 4 pnts., 3rd = 2 pnts and 4th = 1 pnt.
