A research project which fitted cameras to bike helmets to observe traffic has confirmed what riders have long suspected—drivers are not paying attention.

Of all the incidents recorded by the cameras drivers were at fault 87 per cent of the time, and in 83 per cent of those cases the drivers appeared oblivious of their errors. Drivers of 4WD vehicles were highly likely to failure to observe cyclists.

At Invercargill a year ago, Megan Blatchford-Peck startled the two women who were sharing a podium with her.

Veteran Blatchford-Peck had just come second in the national sprint race, for elite women, the best in the country.

"I joked with them," she said. "I asked them, 'How old are your mothers?"'

Information received on the NZ Cycling Club Championships from the Whanganui Cycling Club...

Bike Manawatu opened the road racing season with a four race criterium series which was held at Linton Camp over the period 15 Jan – 5 Feb. 50 riders contested three grades and the series saw some fiercely contested sprints in very challenging conditions for two of the races. Matiu Kaihau dominated the A grade pack but had to fight off determined challenges from his track rivals Steve Stannard and Josh Chard.
