Road Cycling

We aim to promote and encourage cycling and cycle racing for all ages, from Juniors to Seniors and Veterans/Masters, and for all abilities in the Manawatu District.

Overview

You can cycle all year round, with organised Saturday races or group rides. Races include handicapped races, graded road races, time trials, and hill climbs. Road race distances are normally from 40 to 60 km for Seniors with shorter distances for less experienced riders and younger riders. In some races riders compete for trophies that can be an opportunity to have your name engraved alongside some of New Zealand's most famous cyclists from days gone by. Most trophy races are handicapped to give everyone a chance.

Events

The Club organises Saturday club racing, Club Championship events in age groups for time trial and road race. Members can also compete in inter-club, regional and national competitions and may be selected to compete in National Championships.

The BikeManawatu Events Committee is pleased to present an exciting and challenging Road and Track programme for 2011. We have aimed to provide a local road race, or a race within the Manawatu region each weekend. The road race programme starts with a focus around the Wanganui / Bike Manawatu Interclub Series, culminating with the Feilding Festival of Cycling and Wanganui Grand Prix. The Cup Series runs through September and October and consists of a series of handicapped races. There is a lot of history associated with the Cup races, from the former Manawatu Masters and Palmerston North Marist clubs, and it’s a great opportunity for BikeManawatu members to get their name on a trophy and become part of the history of BikeManawatu. Points will be allocated for each handicap race (based on finishing position) and series prizes will be offered for the Cup Series.
